A 54-year-old Harare man has appeared in court after he allegedly fired a shot at a moving vehicle during a late-night altercation in Whitehouse, damaging the vehicle's rear bumper.

Raymond Nyika Mukiwa appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, who granted him bail of US$100.

According to the State, the incident occurred at around 11:40pm on Saturday.

Prosecutors allege that the complainant, Law Chikwavaire, was driving his Mitsubishi motor vehicle from Madhadha Bar in Whitehouse towards Whitehouse Shopping Centre when he stopped after encountering two women.

The court heard that while Chikwavaire was talking to the women, Mukiwa allegedly emerged from the darkness, charged towards him and struck him once on the right hand with an unidentified object, causing a minor injury.

It is alleged that Chikwavaire immediately drove towards Whitehouse Police Station to report the incident.

As he was leaving, Mukiwa allegedly fired a single shot at the moving vehicle, damaging its rear bumper.

Police later arrested Mukiwa following investigations into the incident.

The State alleges that officers recovered a Tokarev pistol, registered in Mukiwa's name, together with a magazine loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

Prosecutors allege that Mukiwa acted unlawfully. Investigations into the matter are continuing.

Mukiwa was released on US$100 bail pending the finalisation of the case.
