BURA welcomes Prof Solwayo Ngwenya’s appointment as Mpilo CEO

BULAWAYO, 24 July 2026 - The Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) has welcomed the appointment of Professor Solwayo Ngwenya as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of Mpilo Central Hospital, describing the development as a positive step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the city.
In a statement issued on Friday, the residents’ association congratulated Professor Ngwenya and commended Government and relevant authorities for entrusting him with the leadership of one of Zimbabwe’s largest referral hospitals.
BURA said the appointment was well deserved and reflected Professor Ngwenya’s distinguished contribution to Zimbabwe’s health sector over many years.
BURA Chairperson Winos Dube said residents were optimistic that Professor Ngwenya’s leadership would improve service delivery at Mpilo Central Hospital. “On behalf of the Bulawayo United Residents Association, we sincerely congratulate Professor Solwayo Ngwenya on his appointment as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of Mpilo Central Hospital. His appointment brings renewed hope to residents who rely on Mpilo Hospital for quality healthcare services. We have every confidence that his vast experience, integrity and visionary leadership will strengthen service delivery,” Dube said.
He said effective healthcare remained central to community well‑being and expressed confidence that the new chief executive would build stronger partnerships while restoring public confidence in the institution. “Healthcare is a cornerstone of sustainable development and community well‑being. We are optimistic that Professor Ngwenya’s leadership will further enhance service delivery, strengthen institutional partnerships and improve public confidence in our healthcare system,” he added.
BURA wished Professor Ngwenya success in his new role, expressing hope that his tenure would contribute to improved healthcare services for the people of Bulawayo and the country at large, reinforcing ongoing discussions around Mpilo Hospital reforms and Zimbabwe health sector leadership.
