Zimbabwean woman jailed in UK for sexual assault of schoolgirl

A ZIMBABWEAN woman has been jailed for six years and four months in the United Kingdom after luring a teenage schoolgirl into her home, locking her inside and subjecting her to a serious sexual assault.
Karen Murerwa, 34, approached the girl on March 10, 2026, as she walked near Seaton Crescent in Nottingham.
The woman, who was unknown to the victim, persuaded her to accompany her to her home.
Once inside the property, Murerwa locked the door behind them, leaving the girl frightened and desperate to leave.
The victim tried to establish where the keys had been placed and took note of details inside the house because she was afraid and wanted to return home.
Murerwa then tightened her control over the girl, giving her alcohol, taking her mobile phone and making her send a message to her mother claiming that she was with a friend.
The girl was subsequently taken upstairs, where Murerwa subjected her to a sustained sexual assault before eventually allowing her to leave.
Police launched an investigation after the victim disclosed what had happened. Murerwa was later arrested and charged.
She pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault by penetration and a further count of false imprisonment.
Murerwa was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on September 10 to six years and four months in prison.
She was also made subject to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.
After passing sentence, Judge James Sampson commended the victim for her bravery in reporting the abuse, saying her decision to come forward "may have saved another child from a similar experience."
Detective Sergeant Nicola Roddis-Ferrari, of Nottinghamshire Police, said Murerwa had deliberately targeted the girl and used coercion to control her movements before sexually assaulting her.
"Murerwa deliberately targeted this vulnerable young girl, coerced her into entering her home and restricted her movements before sexually assaulting her," she said.
Roddis-Ferrari said the assault had a significant impact on the victim, who had initially shown kindness towards Murerwa and wanted to help her.
"Murerwa's actions have had a huge impact on this girl's life," she said.
"I hope this court result brings some closure to the victim and allows her to move on from what must have been a very traumatic ordeal."
The detective sergeant also praised the girl for having the courage to speak to specially trained officers about her experience.
She urged other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, saying police would listen to their accounts, investigate the allegations and seek justice on their behalf.
