The helicopter that crashed in Marondera, killing businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke, her personal assistant and two pilots, had been hired from local businessman Themba Nkatazo's Sky Helicopters.
Nkatazo is the founder and chief executive of agricultural enterprise Valley Seeds Private Limited and also owns Sky Helicopters, a luxury private aviation charter company that provides helicopter hire and on-demand charter services in Zimbabwe.
Youth Minister Tino Machakaire introduced Nkatazo to mourners in Marondera, Mashonaland East, during the burial of Captain Kelvin Tafirei Soda, the pilot who was in command of the helicopter when it crashed.
Soda was buried on the same day as his fellow pilot, Captain Courage Mutavirwa, who also died in the crash.
Through Sky Helicopters, Nkatazo provides private helicopter charter and rental services used by corporate executives, public figures, politicians and wealthy individuals.
Chivayo was among the prominent clients associated with the company's helicopter services.
The Bell 430 carrying Chivayo, Muteke, her personal assistant Senelisiwe Magagula, Soda and Mutavirwa crashed at Kudenga Farm near Waddilove Mission in Marondera Rural.
All five people aboard the aircraft died.
The crash occurred as the helicopter was travelling towards Harare from Chivayo's rural homestead in Gandami, Chikomba.
According to accounts of the aircraft's final radio communications, the pilots encountered poor weather and reduced visibility before the crash.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation, with aviation authorities expected to examine the helicopter's flight recorder, radio communications, weather conditions and wreckage as they determine the cause of the crash.
Nkatazo's Sky Helicopters has become one of the local providers of premium private aviation services, catering to clients seeking helicopter transport and charter services.
His introduction at Soda's burial brought renewed attention to the company's connection to the helicopter involved in the fatal accident and to the private aviation services used by Chivayo and other high-profile clients.
