A self-styled prophet who allegedly leaked a controversial audio recording of the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo discussing rituals to acquire wealth has been arrested in Goromonzi.
Christopher Guzha, popularly known as Madzibaba DVD, was arrested on Sunday on allegations of armed robbery after an EcoCash agent reportedly lost US$12,000, according to law enforcement sources.
Guzha's wife, Bridget, told ZimLive that police officers seized his mobile phone immediately after his arrest.
However, Guzha's son-in-law, who declined to be identified, claimed the robbery allegations were fabricated and linked the arrest to the leaked Chivayo recording.
"It has everything to do with the leaking of the Wicknell audio," he said.
Guzha is expected to appear before a regional court in Marondera.
The arrest comes less than a week after Chivayo, one of Zimbabwe's most prominent businessmen, died in a helicopter crash in Marondera.
An audio recording attributed to Chivayo went viral following his death, with the businessman heard discussing alleged rituals he believed had helped him accumulate wealth and gain access to powerful political circles.
In the recording, Chivayo is heard thanking an unnamed Madzibaba for providing him with what he described as lucky charms, which he claimed had helped him win the favour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chivayo also reportedly promised to buy the cleric a vehicle once his wealth began increasing.
The businessman was further heard discussing plans for what he described as a final ritual at Lake Kariba, involving a clay pot containing ritual objects being lowered into the lake.
The recording, whose authenticity has reportedly been established, triggered intense debate on social media following Chivayo's death.
Guzha, who is associated with the Johane Masowe eChishanu sect, has now become the focus of a criminal investigation following his arrest.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged armed robbery and the claim that his arrest is connected to the leaked recording remain subject to the court process.
