A 36-year-old Chitungwiza man who seriously assaulted his two minor children aged (8) and (11) respectively for wetting blankets, has been spared a jail term.

Peter Manhomboni (36) of Unit H was on Tuesday ordered to carry out 245 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to two counts of ill-treatment of child and young persons.

Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo slapped him with a 12-month prison term and suspended five months for the next five years.

The remaining seven months were suspended on condition he completes the unpaid work at the court's premises.

Proved facts were that on the date unknown to the prosecution, the 11-year-old girl urinated in the blankets while asleep.

Her stepmother Ruth Gwaze woke up and discovered what the girl had done and informed her husband who assaulted her. She sustained serious bruises. The father also assaulted his son on May 22 for urinating in bed.
