Cabinet meetings suspended

GOVERNMENT has suspended Cabinet meetings to allow members to concentrate on preparations for the harmonised election to be held on July 31.
The announcement was made by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda in a statement yesterday.
"Members are hereby advised that Cabinet meetings are forthwith temporarily suspended to allow them to concentrate attention on the harmonised elections due on 31 July 2013," he said.
"They will, however, be summoned to attend meetings in the usual manner should the need arise."
Parliament was dissolved by operation of law on June 29, with local authorities now being run by caretakers and commissions after the tenure of sitting councillors also expired on the same date. The dissolution of Parliament meant that President Mugabe will summon powers vested in him to gazette new laws if need be.
Preparations for the harmonised elections have gone a gear up, with Zanu-PF and the MDC-T having launched their election manifestos and campaigns.
Zanu-PF launched its manifesto and campaign at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield last Friday, while MDC-T launched its own at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Sunday.
Other parties are still to launch their manifestos, with the MDC formation led by Professor Welshman Ncube expected to launch its campaign in Chikomba on Friday and its manifesto in Binga on July 20.
