A Sakubva woman who was eager to uncover the secret lover her husband was seeing got more than what she had bargained for when she discovered that he was actually seeing another man.
Farai Phiri of Chinyausunzi Court 12 was left with an egg on the face after his wife, only identified as Mai Eliza, caught him red-handed kissing and caressing another man last week on Friday morning. The incident occurred at the couple's lodgings.
Police have since arrested Phiri, while his 'better half' who fled from the scene is on the run. He was only identified as a vendor who sells soft drinks in Mutare.
Mourners who were attending at funeral nearby could be seen gathered at the place baying for the gays blood. Those who arrived first said Phiri tried to scare off people by chanting Zanu PF slogan.
All hell broke loose, with the incensed residents having none of it. Some of them attacked the two 'anaconda owners', but Phiri's "male sweetheart" escaped leaving his bicycle behind.
Interviewed neighbours revealed that the two have been playing 'hide my sausage in your butt' for quite some time.
"The wife suspected that her husband was cheating on her, but she didn't suspect it to be another man," said a neighbour who requested anonymity.
Another neighbour who claimed to have witnessed the whole incident said Phiri and his 'sugar pie' got into the house and he chased his wife outside.
"They locked the door from inside saying they had something important to do and thus his wife should go out because she was disturbing them. Out of anger, Mai Eliza took a brick and crashed the window from outside. This drew the attention of people who were attending a funeral nearby. Mai Eliza said her husband and the vendor insisted that she should leave the house because they needed some privacy to do 'a business transaction'.
"She subsequently broke the window from outside to see the kind of business that needed such privacy in her own house. Mourners only came after the noise from the smashed windows alerted them that something was wrong," said a neighbour who resides at the same flat.
Another neighbour (name withheld) said she saw the two kissing and caressing outside the house. She also said the vendor visited Phiri on numerous occasions.
"That guy comes here many times but we thought the two were just friends and not involved in homosexuality. This is unacceptable and the two should be disciplined accordingly. How could they try to use a Zanu PF slogan to scare off people. President Mugabe is known to be against homosexuals and these people want to drag Zanu PF's name in the mud by chanting the party slogan after being caught in the unholy act," fumed the woman.
Efforts to get police comment and whether the two were charged proved fruitless up to the time of going to Press.
