Simba Makoni has no more than 20 supporters
The Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai was fooled by Mavambo Kusile Dawn leader Simba Makoni who is alleged to have less than 20 supporters and has since caused more chaos in the bitter Makoni Central fracas by imposing Makoni to take over that constituency, ZimEye reported.
The online news sources claims that more consternation is expected in the MDC-T party this week after Tsvangirai went into a secret pact with Makoni despite the fact that the constituency was duly won by Patrick Sagandira. During the MDC-T primaries, there were some disturbances with allegations that the party leadership had rigged the election against Grace Kwinjeh in favour of Sagandira who was then imprisoned on charges of committing violence.
Tsvangirai latter formed a coalition with Simba Makoni and the online news source claim that MKD insiders have revealed that when Tsvangirai rushed to the camera to announce a coalition with Makoni, the latter had become unpopular and did not even have 20 supporters.
Sigandira insists that he is still the MDC-T candidate for the constituency.
"I was in prison when the three parties formed the coalition for change. When I came out of prison, the MDC-T never communicated to me that I was supposed to withdraw for the MKD candidate Makoni. Therefore, as far as I am concerned I am still the MDC-T candidate and I am campaigning. I also met Tsvangirai at a rally in Mutare and he asked me how my campaign was going, which means I am still the candidate," said Sigandira.
