POLICE in Mutare have launched a manhunt for a Marange man (42) who allegedly raped his teenage step-daughter in December last year and disappeared when the matter came to light.
Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the rape which happened in Mutudza Village in Chief Marange's area.
It is alleged that on December 28, Charles Mutudza (42), the stepfather of the complainant, was left with the teenager while her mother proceeded to Mutare to buy groceries. Asst Insp Chananda said Mutudza told the girl that he was obliged to sleep with her since he was not her biological father. After committing the offence, Mutudza allegedly told the girl not to disclose what had happened between them. He allegedly further instructed her to take a bath as a way of concealing evidence. "The matter only came to light on April 10 when the girl felt sick and confided in her mother about the rape incident," said Asst Insp Chananda.
The girl's mother took her to Marange Police Station where a report was filed.
Asst Insp Chananda said Mutudza disappeared when he heard that police were keen to interview him in connection with the alleged rape. He appealed for information that will lead to Mutudza's arrest.
