A TRIANGLE man has been arrested for fatally whipping his two-year-old son with a leather belt for bedwetting.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tinaye Matake confirmed the arrest of Enock Baure (25) of Village 4 Bangala in Triangle, who is father of the late toddler, Elvin Baure.
Insp Matake said that on June 9, Baure woke up in the morning and found that his son had wetted his blankets.
Infuriated by the incident, he instantly woke the toddler up and allegedly beat him up all over the body using a leather belt.
The toddler sustained a swollen head, hands and feet.
Later in the afternoon of the same day, Baure once again whipped the toddler with the same leather belt for the same reason that he had wetted his blankets that morning. Upon noticing the extent of the injuries, the mother of the toddler, Grace Chabata (22), rushed him to hospital.
The toddler received treatment at Favoursham Clinic in Triangle and returned home with his mother. At around 6.30pm of the same day, the toddler passed away.
Police were alerted and Baure was arrested and taken to Triangle Police Station.
The body of the toddler was taken to Chiredzi Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
