Police in Harare violently dispersed a peaceful MDC-T demonstration leading to the injury of 18 members.
MDC-T Harare provincial spokesperson Obert Gutu said, "In typical Stalinist fashion, on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, the Police violently crashed a peaceful demonstration that had been organised by the MDC-T Harare Youth Assembly.
"At least 18 people have been badly injured after they were brutally set upon by baton stick wielding police officers as they marched to the Parliament building where they intended to present a petition to the Speaker of Parliament."
Guti said the petition calls upon Parliament to debate and enact legislation that enhances employment creation for young people.
"Eve Nyamadzavo, the MDC-T Harare Youth Assembly secretary for constitutional affairs has been badly hurt with several broken ribs and she has since been taken to the Avenues Clinic," said Gutu.
"Another youth official, Albert Chidakwa, was beaten with a baton stick on the head and he sustained a deep cut that required 8 stitches. This level of fascist police brutality can easily be equated to the barbarism and savagery of Boko Haram in Nigeria and ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
"We condemn, in the strongest terms, the alarming levels of intolerance and barbarism that the ZanuPF regime continues to display on a daily basis. What is certain is that this brutal dictatorship is fast approaching the end game. The people's victory is imminent."
