Provide renewal leadership, solutions not confrontation

Zimbabwe Unemployed People's Association, as the organisation that represents the interests of millions of unemployed economically disadvantaged Zimbabweans, we ask all opposition parties to peacefully, thoughtfully engage government and the private sector to strategize on how to effectively address youth unemployment in the country.

Demands for job creation and pointless declarations will not provide a lasting solution hence the need to involve the private sector and other stakeholders in finding the lasting solutions. While we condemn all acts of violence on our streets, we however call upon politicians to desist from politicizing youth unemployment but to be proactive in searching for solution to the high youth unemployment levels in the country.

The ability to lead effectively is based on a number of key skills. These skills are highly sought after by the unemployed, economically disadvantaged and Zimbabweans in general so as to motivate, enthuse and build respect amongst each other while resolving serious national issues. Ideally, leaders become leaders because they have credibility, and must be morally and technically infallible. Sadly infallibility is not a constant for any human being; we are all idiots some of the time. To err is human. Leaders of political parties who publicly encourage confrontation must quickly retract such pronouncements for such can cause explosion in our midst.  Research suggests that the more the  leader becomes less tolerant of independent thought, and the more the  led become less capable of providing such thoughts. Listen, listen and listen to others for the good of our country and the democratic struggle.

There is a need for all opposition's parties to have a renewal agenda for the modern politics and find better ways of restructuring our economy and create both jobs and wealth. In order to achieve an inclusive approach to political, economic renewal, parties need to consider their relationships with the unemployed and economically disadvantaged, civic society and the youth in general. Such new approaches will be needed to ensure awareness by both politicians and the public of sustainable political, economic and social development. Leaders must listen to others.

If politicians and their parties have no well thought out and innovative strategies, no quality leadership to offer, it is better they keep quiet instead of voicing demands and unnecessarily putting the very suffering young people at risk of real harm. We advised youths and those who are economically disadvantaged in the country to be strong and remain focused as they search for economic empowerment.
