Zinara has embarked on a major staff shake-up which workers allege is a purge to staff to cover up for years of financial impropriety.

The purge has already claimed the scalp of FD Thomas Mutizhe with more dismissals expected in the coming week.

Zinara allegedly owes its creditors, which include DBSA, NMB, Cimas and the Department of Roads, a cumulative debt of $40 mln as on November last year.

The parastatal collects $5.5 million a month from tollgates and $130 million annually from road access fees.

The article goes on to say that Zinara entered into an agreement with Univern Enterprises in November 2012 for the supply of 40 graders at a cost of $8 million.

The director of admin Precious Murove signed the contract on behalf of Univern yet he is Zinara's acting CE, FD and director of administration.

His signature on the contract has raised ethical and procedural questions.

Former CE Frank Chitukutuku signed on behalf of Zinara.

Transport minister Obert Mpofu however said he is still to be briefed on the issue.
