Zimra tax amnesty expires today
30 Jun 2015 at 02:55hrs | Views
After Zimra had to continuously extend the deadline for tax defaulters, the tax amnesty Zimra had granted on defaulters expires today, amid indications that cash strapped corporates did not yield to the call.
Gershom Pasi, Zimra commissioner general is on record saying once the amnesty period runs out, Zimra will "descend on all unyielding defaulters".
Pasi also said Zimra was also going to start property attachments to deal with tax offenders.
Meanwhile, Pasi has said it has not closed any company, but has identified five companies that would be shut down as it moves to stamp out malpractices.
The warning came amid a groundswell of discontent from companies which see Zimra as a "monster" that would go at length to collect its dues.
Zimra is owed close to $1 billion by companies and individuals in unpaid taxes.
