THREE Mutare juveniles escaped jail when Mutare magistrate, Nyasha Kuture wholly suspended a three-year jail term she had imposed on each of them on condition that they do not commit any offences in the next five years.
The trio, Tonderai Hungwe (18), Tony Matanga (16) and Tichaona Mabvumbe (19) stole 16 tyres worthy $320 from a tyre mender, Daniel Rupimo who works at Ebenezer Building at Number 42, Jameson Street.
Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
"On August 22 at around 5pm, Rupimo knocked off from duty as usual and left his second-hand tyres tightly secured in a tyre rack outside the premises.
"When Rupimo reported for duty the following day he discovered that the tyre rack had been broken and 16 tyres were missing. He immediately filed a police report.
"Police detectives received a tip-off which led to the trio's arrest.
"The trio led police detectives to the place where they had sold the tyres and seven tyres of different sizes were recovered at OTS footbridge along Sakubva River.
Ms Kuture ordered the trio to restitute the owner the outstanding money.
