NOT being able to withstand the fact that his wife had left him for another man made a Honde Valley man team up with his friend and assaulted the alleged wife snatcher. Solomon Mupita (36) and Tafadzwa Matanda (29) pleaded guilty to the charges of assault when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi.
It was the State's case led by Ms Christine Mwenga that the duo assaulted Thomas Tambare, accusing him of having an extra marital affair with Matanda's wife.
On October 16, Matanda disguised his voice to a female voice and called Tambare proposing for a 'date' at a certain place in which Tambare complied thinking that it was his lover who had called him. The following morning the duo proceeded to call Tambare reminding him of their 'date'.
Tambare went to the agreed meeting place, only to be confronted by Matanda who quizzed him about his affair with his wife. "While Matanda was questioning Tambare, Mupita emerged from the bush where he was hiding. "The duo teamed up to assault Tambare. He sustained some injuries and a swollen face," said Ms Mwenga.
Asked on why he had assaulted Tambare, Matanda said it was out of anger since his wife had dumped him for Tambare leaving his children without a mother to look after them. Tambare said: "This man provoked me Your Worship. He is having an extra marital affair with my wife to an extent that my wife abandoned us for him.
"I was hurt and this prompted me to assault him." Mr Mukwengi advised the two to settle their disputes amicably rather than resorting to violence. He ordered them to pay a fine of $200 each or alternatively serve three months behind bars.
