Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni to appear in court today

Harare Residents Trust has revealed the Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni who is embroiled in a bitter wrangle with Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere who has been arrested for alleged cases of corrption is likely to appear in court today.
"The Mayor of Harare, Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni is scheduled to appear in court today at the Magistrate Court, at 8.30am, for his first court appearance following his arrest for alleged criminal abuse of office, arising from the recruitment of Town Clerk for Harare City Council," the trust said.
The trust said his lawyer, Professor Lovemore Madhuku yesterday, speaking outside the Magistrates Court, said: "The Mayor is detained at Avondale Police Station. \
"He is in high spirits. The police there are trying their best to treat him in accordance with the Constitution. We are determined to get him released so that he resumes his duties as Mayor of Harare," the lawyers said.
