The Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) has said as part of its Advocacy and Lobby Policy is working with various partners in the media industry in coming up with a Media Regulation Framework.

The VMCZ said it has partnered with the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA-Zimbabwe) and the Centre for Applied Legal research in the formulation of a media regulation framework. "The process has been ongoing and has resulted in a draft Media Regulation Bill that the VMCZ is taking around the country for members and interested stakeholders to input and feedback on and discuss key issues around Media Regulation in Zimbabwe before engaging policy makers with a working draft Media Regulation Bill," said VMCZ. "The media in Zimbabwe has been regulated under a gamut of laws that do not differentiate issues pertaining to access to information, broadcasting, telecommunications and media regulation.   The new framework being developed will separate the many media spheres while zeroing in on particular areas of media operation, and for the VMCZ the interest is on Media Regulation." The organisation said as a result, it will be on a national consultative process to gather views of stakeholders and to discuss contents of the draft Media Regulation Framework.
