The Cherutombo Rastafari House in Marondera will next Saturday hold a national worship meeting to pray for the country and its leadership.
In an interview last week, Cherutombo Rastafari House high priest Ras Alexander Munyukwi said Media, Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu will deliver the keynote address at the gathering that is also expected to draw members of eight Rastafari churches.
Also scheduled to speak are the high priests of Chaminuka Rastafari House in Chitungwiza; Murahwa Rastafari House in Mutare; Dzimbadzemabwe House in Glen Norah, Harare; the Marcus Garvey Rastafari House in Epworth, Harare; the Chirorodziva Rastafari House in Chinhoyi, the Joshua Nkomo Rastafari House in Bulawayo and the Mwenemutapa Rastafari House in Kwekwe.
Ras Munyukwi said the meeting, which is open to all church denominations, seeks to rally Zimbabweans behind President Mugabe on account of his sterling leadership in implementing the land reform programme.
"We will be praying for the country and His Excellency, the President, the country's leader. We will also be encouraging people to guard against voting into power black Zimbabweans who are puppets of the white man.
"If we do that, we will be returning the country to colonial bondage," said Ras Munyukwi, who also urged all Zimbabweans to support indigenisation and economic empowerment.
He added that the prayer meeting would implore participants to uphold African values and fight Western cultural influences. He said some local politicians were supporting gays and lesbians, a clear indication they were influenced by Western cultural practices.
"When leaders take the oath of loyalty to the nation, they swear upon the Bible. When they turn around and publicly support gays and lesbians, we believe they would have become anti-Christ."
Ras Munyukwi also called on Zimbabweans to jealously guard the country's sovereignty and the gains of independence. He said development and empowerment initiatives spearheaded by President Mugabe and Zanu-PF were worth supporting.
