MDC-T youths remain defiant

MDC-T youths said they will not back down on protests against President Robert Mugabe, despite spirited efforts by government to thwart them.

Speaking to the Daily News yesterday, MDC-T youth leader Happymore Chidziva said "everyday, together with the party leadership, we wake up to find peaceful means and methods to remove Mugabe from power".

"It should be noted that as a party and an assembly in particular, we seek the removal of Mugabe and his corrupt system," Chidziva said, adding that "attempts by the State media and police to label us terrorists will not deter us".

Last week, the MDC-T youths held a demonstration which ended in running battles between riot police and protestors, as the law enforcement agents unsuccessfully attempted to quash the protest.

Chidziva said they remain "unapologetic" of their quest to see a post-Mugabe era.

"We have planned nationwide peaceful demos under our campaign #MyZimbabwe which we successfully launched last week under a very difficult environment," he said, adding that "protests will be rolled in every town and corners of Zimbabwe in the coming days".

Chidziva further said the police must also arrest Zanu-PF youths leader Kudzai Chipanga for directing his youths to deal with protestors.

"The coming in of a third hand in our demonstration can only be traced to . . . Chipanga who has publicly stated that he will send in militia to disturb peaceful demonstrations. We hold him responsible for the violence that took place in Harare and we urge the police to arrest him," he said.

"Let me reiterate that our struggle is bigger than looting and destruction of property, we seek to remove Mugabe and nothing will distract us from our mission."
