Commuter omnibus slashes fares

Midlands State University students will now pay 30cents commuter omnibus fare per trip as registered  operators are feeling the pinch from pirate taxes.

Normally a trip is 50cents.

The route is lucrative when the university is open as it has the highest student population in the country.

According to NewsDay,  kombi operators have been forced to slash fares for students.

"These pirate taxis operate illegally, but because they are small, students rush to them because they are quick to fill with passengers,"  said Tinashe Moyo.

"Because of that reason, we slashed our fares so that we up the competition against them."
