SILOBELA - A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Joseph Dube (19) following a dispute over a borrowed torch at Makende Business Centre.
According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred on November 1, 2025, at around 8:30pm. The suspect, Lifa Matare, was drinking beer with Joseph and his brother Pride Dube (23) when an argument erupted over Matare’s failure to return a borrowed torch.
“In the heat of the argument, Lifa withdrew a homemade knife from his waistband and stabbed Joseph Dube several times all over the body. Joseph Dube fell to the ground and the suspect ran away,” Mahoko said.
Dube was rushed to Silobela Hospital but succumbed to his injuries en route. Matare was later apprehended and is currently in police custody.
Authorities have urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
