PLUMTREE - A Masasane Primary School teacher, Tshidzani Sibanda, has been remanded in custody after allegedly assaulting a grade two pupil for failing to write homework.
The 48‑year‑old teacher appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who ordered her detention.
The state alleges that on September 25 Sibanda assaulted the minor with a switch on his legs. The child managed to escape but was followed back into the classroom, where Sibanda allegedly struck him on the head.
The beatings were said to be severe, resulting in an eye injury. Sibanda reportedly attempted to administer first aid after the boy sustained a deep cut. She later took the child to his grandmother, who arranged hospital treatment. A medical report was obtained.
Sheila Nyathi prosecuted. The matter continues tomorrow.
