A booklet produced by Zanu-PF national chairperson and senior minister ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo on honours bestowed on the late vice-president, Joshua Nkomo, will be officially launched in Bulawayo today (Monday) .
In a statement on Friday, the chief executive officer of the Joshua Nkomo National Foundation, Jabulani Hadebe, said the launch will be at the Joshua Nkomo Museum, which is situated at the residence of the late Father Zimbabwe, at house number 17 Aberdeen Road, Matsheumhlope, in the city.
"The booklet produced by Moyo details the honours bestowed on the late great veteran nationalist Nkomo, namely, the opening of the land mark JMN Nkomo International Airport, renaming of Main Street to JMN Nkomo Street and the unveiling of the Joshua Nkomo statue at Eight Avenue and JMN Nkomo Street," he said.
Hadebe said Moyo will preside over the event while members of the Joshua Nkomo Foundation led by the chairperson of its board of trustees, Francis Nhema, who is also the minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Employment Creation will also be in attendance.
The patron of the foundation is President Robert Mugabe, who is also one of the founding fathers of this nation and presided at the ceremonies when a statue of Nkomo was unveiled as well as at the official opening of the JMN Nkomo Airport.
Today's launch comes a day before the commemoration of the 15th anniversary since the passing on of Nkomo on July 1 1999.
Nkomo is revered for the role he played during the liberation struggle and the development of his country after independence.
A number of economic development projects that he started before he died, such as agro-processing ventures and the Ekusileni Medical Centre in Bulawayo, have not yet been completed.
