United Methodist Church embarks on clean-up campaign in Mvurwi

The United Methodist Church, Mvurwi Youth Circuit embarked on a clean-up campaign on Saturday, which saw energetic church members together with the local council collecting refuse and litter in the smartest town of Zimbabwe in a bid to curb the cholera outbreak.
Led by their pastor Lovemore Sithole, the faithful took the whole day to clean the town with Mazowe North ward 28 councillor Fanuel Chigonero clad in a dust coast thoroughly cleaning the Town.
Pastor Sithole said his church is responding to the Cholera outbreak that wreaked havoc in Zimbabwe by maintaining hygiene.
"Having noticed that our country has been affected by Chorela and as United Methodist Church we thought of responding to the epidemic since it has killed many people according to statics this year so we are advocating for hygiene," said the clergyman.
Ward 28 councillor Fanuel Chigonero expressed gratitude to Methodist's gesture saying they are imploring other churches to copy what has been initiated by them.
"What United Methodist has done is very welcome for the smartest town it our wish that other churches copy this gesture, initially we are planning to invite all churches and put a monthly clean up exercise so that we keep our city clean and stay away from Cholera," Chigonero said.
Youth Secretary for United Methodist Mvurwi Stalin Zisengwe (26) said the youths are paying back to the community by cleaning the Town and also spreading the word of hygiene in fighting Cholera.
"As youths we took it upon our self to be on a preventative side after reading and watching the cholera cases in the media so by cleaning up we are also sending a message to our community and the nation at large to be safe by practising hygiene," said Zisengwe.
Meanwhile, Mvurwi is always on the lookout of Cholera after it decommissioned a borehole at Suoguru market place as a preventive measure to cholera after it tested positive to bacterial infections last month.
Zimbabwe is currently in throes of the worst Cholera outbreaks which saw many public gatherings being put to hold so as to stop the spread of Cholera.
