The Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira has this week called upon indigenous churches to 'only' pray for current supreme leader and First Secretary of the revolutionary party, ZANU-PF, President Emmerson Mnangagwa while opposition and other prospective successionists should do it on their own.
Speaking during an indepth interview with Bulawayo24News crew in Harare, Chadzamira supported his decision to mobilise indigenous churches to rally behind Mnangagwa citing (referencing) biblical scriptures from Romans chapter 13 where God-fearing masses are commanded to submit to leadership of the day (current).
"It is a blessing to understand what the bible commanded us to do and live accordingly. According to Romans chapter 14, it (bible) tells us about submission to leaders of the day, not opposition or those with succession motives, but those currently at the helm," Chadzamira said.
"As God-fearing christians, we therefore ought to live and serve accordingly. We are therefore obliged and mandated by the bible to only submit to our supreme leader, Comrade Emmerson Mnangagwa," Chadzamira added.
"Support opposition and other individuals at your own peril and that is deviance. The bible in Hosea further declared that my people have perished because lack of knowledge and wisdom, therefore, diverting from supporting President Mnangagwa is the best testimony to wisdom and knowledge insufficiency," Chadzamira said.
"Our blessings will only become a reality when we support President Mnangagwa and all indigenous churches have been giving testimonies to that end. They familiarise all those verses to their contextual set-ups where decampaigning their Arch-Bishops or High Priests as insubordination, unethical and disobedience," Chadzamira claims.
"Insubordination, unethical conduct, indiscipline and disobedience are all characteristics inhumane behaviour which calls for dismissal from church by supreme leader hence as politicians, we also operate within the confines of biblical texts and discourses. Pray for only supreme leaders since they carry blessings for us all, and without submission to them, we are nothing and best candidates for hell," Chadzamira declares.
Several indigenous churches in Masvingo have endorsed their allegiance to President Mnangagwa and ZANU-PF while declaring that the bible dictates that they only submit to the government of the day.
