CHIPINGE- Mutema-Musikavanhu Constituency legislator and Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Angeline Gata, together with St Luke's Apostolic Ejiwel Jekenishen Church leader, Archbishop Phillip Pferedzai, have commended the media and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for their efforts in promoting peace, gender equality, and equity across Zimbabwe.
In a speech delivered on her behalf by constituency representative Mr Conrad Manyange during the church's annual women's fellowship conference and 30th anniversary, held at its headquarters in Maunganidze, Gata emphasized the vital role these institutions play in fostering a more inclusive and harmonious society.
"The media and police have been instrumental in disseminating information that encourages peaceful coexistence among communities. We commend their service in complementing sustainable peace and development policies across the country," Gata said.
She further noted that both institutions contribute to conflict resolution and public education on gender equality, inclusivity, and law and order.
"Your efforts are commendable in both escalating and de-escalating community conflicts. By amplifying and advocating for government policies, you help communities understand the essence of gender equality and warn against violations," she added.
Archbishop Phillip Pferedzai echoed these sentiments, urging communities to remain vigilant in combating gender-based violence.
"We appreciate the media and police for helping bridge gender gaps and promote fairness. Communities have become more active in fighting inequality, which fosters unity and peace," Pferedzai said.
He also praised the women of St Luke's Church for their involvement in peer-to-peer engagement, counseling, conflict resolution, and project management - skills that have strengthened community resilience.
Ward Councillor Lazarus Machuwaire of Mutema-Musikavanhu Constituency highlighted the importance of media and police engagement with local communities.
"By engaging with citizens, these institutions raise awareness on critical issues and empower people to take action," Machuwaire said.
As Deputy Minister, Gata continues to address challenges in Zimbabwe's education sector, including high dropout rates and inadequate infrastructure. Her recognition of the media and ZRP's contributions underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration in achieving national development goals.
