HARARE – Religious ZANU-PF affiliate Masowe for Economic Development (Masowe4ED) has joined the nation in mourning the passing of Archbishop Paul Mwazha, the revered leader and founder of the Apostolic African Church (AAC), who died at the age of 107.

In a heartfelt statement, Masowe4ED chairperson and leader of the Graspa Johane Masowe sect, Mr Onwell Vengesai (Madzibaba Terbnage), described Mwazha as a towering figure whose vision and teachings will continue to guide apostolic believers for generations.

“It is with deep sorrow and reverence that Masowe4ED acknowledges the passing on of Archbishop Paul Mwazha of the Apostolic African Church (AAC), a towering figure in the history of apostolic faith and one of the most enduring pioneers of the white garment tradition in Zimbabwe. His departure marks the end of an era, yet his vision and teaching will continue to illuminate the path of Apostolic for generations to come,” the statement read.

Masowe4ED noted that Mwazha’s life was anchored on faith, discipline, and cultural identity, fostering unity among believers. His establishment of the AAC and commitment to the white garment dress code gave apostolic followers a distinct identity and spiritual cohesion.

The organisation further highlighted that Mwazha’s ideological grounding upheld virtues of humility, purity, and communal worship, laying the foundation for other white garment movements such as Johane Masowe, which transcended denominational boundaries.

“Through his leadership, Mwazha’s apostolic churches preserved tsika dzeChipostori—the dignity, customs, and moral discipline that define the Vapostori way of life. His teachings emphasised respect for tradition, unity among believers, and the sanctity of spiritual service. These values remain central to the identity of Apostolic churches today and will continue to reinforce the beliefs of the white garment faithful,” Masowe4ED said.

Mwazha’s passing has been described as the end of an era for apostolic Christianity in Zimbabwe, with his legacy expected to endure through the communities he inspired.
