Is democracy Africa's share?
31 Mar 2015 at 05:15hrs | Views
For the people
By the people
With the people
Democracy, Democracy
Is democracy Africa's share?
Africa, Africa, Africa
The cradle of mankind
A land of possibilities
Negative, positive and indifferent possibilities
Is democracy Africa's share?
As I take a mental stroll
Going about my errands
Shuffling my thoughts
Slowly taking a mental tour
Unanswered it remained
Is democracy Africa's share?
In the labyrinth of my mind
Exploring and observing Africa
I am astounded
Shocked but not entirely surprised
Is democracy Africa's share?
The y shout at top decibel levels
Hoarse and eloquent at times
Democracy, democracy
Do they subscribe to the principles?
Is Democracy conditional?
Is democracy Africa's share?
They articulate and define
All the grains and configurations
Democracy defined with passion
Only till they are in power
Only when it suits them
Is democracy Africa's share?
The rough edges of it
Suddenly it is prefixed
A multiplicity of prefixes
Pseudo – democracy
Quasi – democracy
Guided - democracy
African democracy
Internal democracy
Strategic democracy
Struggle democracy
Operational democracy
Our democracy
Is democracy Africa's share?
Suddenly democracy is flexible
A malleable democracy
A democracy with a rough texture
A contextualized democracy
A system exotic in all sorts
Is democracy Africa's share?
Is it only democracy when we are in?
Is democracy not perimetered by ethics?
Democracy is parallel to dictatorship
However the two have converged
The circumference has made it happen
Is democracy Africa's share?
I lament as I look at African leaders
Greed and unprincipled politicians
A people with an insatiable appetite for power
A people that have deserted the democratic creed
Neither can they chant the democratic creed
The democratic compass is long abandoned
Is democracy Africa's share?
Directives rule the day
Ultimatums and riot acts
Orders and commands
Stage managed investigations
Choreographed quasi – judicial processes
Persecution guised as prosecution
Threats and violence
Shame unto the charlatans
Is democracy Africa's share?
Threats of expulsions
Expulsions from voluntary organizations
Purges and eliminations
Paranoid and lame reasoning
A sickly behavior of magnanimous proportions
The archaic imperialist mentality
The superiority complex
The conqueror imagination
Is democracy Africa's share?
In Africa, our land
We fight for democracy
Once in – shockingly
We dismantle democratic institutions
Is democracy Africa's share?
It is now for the people
By us
Without them
Is democracy Africa's share?
