Clean up campaigns countrywide that were recently initiated by Zanu-PF youths in honour of the revolutionary leader and great Pan Africanist, His Excellence President Robert Mugabe's 93rd birthday, is highly commendable. This is a clear indication that the youths are respectful and loyal to their icon and have also expressed a sense of maturity in both social and political circles.

The Zanu-PF youths proved to be more responsible than most of the MDC-T led councils in the country by devoting their time to clean up dirty streets using their own cleaning equipment. In most high density suburbs of Harare, HCC is failing to frequently collect refuse. The local authority should be reminded that it is a deadly health time bomb especially in this rainy season. Piles of refuse will expose citizens to diseases such as typhoid and cholera. The city fathers consider enriching themselves at the expense of offering proper service delivery to the public. Most city council employees are being paid hefty salaries and meager allocation left for service.

The clean up campaigns were in line with the ideals of President Robert Mugabe who always advocates good health and decent environment for citizens. The youths filled up potholes, picked litter and collected refuse targeting most affected areas in the towns and cities.

President Mugabe truely deserves to be highly honoured as he is the only remaining pan Africanist on the African continent who delivered freedom not only to Zimbabweans but to the entire continent. Indeed, he has been instrumental to the whole humanity. He did not only bring about social and political liberation to the people of Zimbabwe but also economic liberation too. President Mugabe continues to preach the need for education, black empowerment and unity among Zimbabweans and this is the reason why Zimbabwe is one of the most peaceful nations in the whole world. The nation is very proud of his visionary, inspirational, fearless and selfless leadership. President Mugabe has done a lot for the nation. Many people in this country now own pieces of land. We also boast of being one of the nations with the highest literacy rate in Africa.

President Mugabe has given most of his life to serving Zimbabwe. He suffered for it during the Ian Smith regime when he spent 11 of his precious years in prison. He survived numerous assassination attempts. President Mugabe introduced the indigenisation policy to further entrench the economic participation and ownership of wealth by the black people. Today, more ordinary Zimbabweans are successful farmers and owners of the means of production because of him.

The nation is expecting a bumper harvest this 2016/17 farming season following an increase in agriculture input schemes initiated by President Mugabe and the good rains received. He initiated the Command Agriculture Programme and The Presidential Input Support Scheme. Farmers who benefitted under the Command Agriculture are optimistic that they will realize high yields surpassing the five tonnes per hectare target output improving the nation's food reserves. The Command Agriculture Programme is targeting to produce 2 million tones of maize on 400 000 hectares of land and 2 000 farmers benefited from the programme while 600 000 households benefited under the Presidential Inputs Support Scheme.

The 21st February movement celebrations are being held in Matobo district in Matebeleland south Province under the theme "Honouring Our Icon, Unlocking the value in Youth" and more than 200 000 delegates drawn from the ten provinces of the country attended the celebrations. The movement was started in 1986 and seeks to inspire young people to emulate the exemplary character of President Mugabe who is also its patron.
