Bulawayo Business Network statement on Zimbabwe-Malawi maize deal
15 Jun 2022 at 04:37hrs | Views
Zimbabwe and Malawi are one , United by a common history and a shared future. From the time of the Federation we have been one and we will continue to be one.
Several Malawians are now part of Zimbabwe , Chewa is now part of Zimbabwe's main languages and this unity must be celebrated, cherished and capitalized upon.
The Bulawayo Business Network would like to remind the DPP and Hon Kondwani Nankhumwa that Zimbabwe and Malawi are one nation and one people divided only by borders and distance.
In 2009 Malawi exported Maize to Zimbabwe and Kenya. The founder of DPP the very party you lead in Parliament Ngwazi Professor Bingu waMutharika got a farm in Zimbabwe and a loan of US$124 000 from the Zimbabwean government , this should demonstrate how close our nations are.
It therefore comes as a surprise that DPP would stand to challenge a Zimbabwe - Malawi maize deal. The GMAZ-ADMARC deal is a deal which is above board and it is a deal that will keep food on the table of Zimbabweans and Malawians who settled in Zimbabwe.
The maize has been sold at market prices and there are no favours being done , this is a purely commercial transaction which promotes African trade , it is in line with the dictates of the Malabo declaration and the MEETING OF AFRICAN MINISTERS FOR AGRICULTURE DECLARATION ON FOOD SECURITY AND NUTRITION of 2020.
DPP should refuse to be used and abused by interested parties who feel left out of the transaction. The grain industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and some players will play dirty and abuse public office bearers in the name of lobbying for their interests.
The GMAZ and ADMARC deal is a welcome development and must be celebrated.
