Zanu-PF congress was good for politicians, but lukewarm for the economy

Politically, it is no secret that I sympathised with ousted Zanu-PF second secretary, Amai  Joice Mujuru .

That being said, the leadership decided and we lost the race but one does not tear up the ball nor destroy the stadium or quit the game all together because of defeat. I salute people like Dzikamai Mavhaire, Murerwa and others who braved the crowd and attended the congress. Having said that, I also clearly understand why Mujuru and Nicholas Goche did not attend congress. Considering that Goche had been swamped by crowds in Mash Central, Sekeramayi's wife had been manhandled and I hear Mujuru no longer has close security, meaning that she would have been at some risk of facing an unpredictable crowd.

Congress made a few decisions that we now have to honour, support and understand as loyal party supporters. The first secretary of the party, His Excellence President Mugabe, was endorsed as the leader of Zanu-PF and that is the will of the delegates, it has to be respected.

I also think that Gushungo displayed a good sportsman's character by wishing Mutasa a speedy recovery, not expelling Mujuru and others. Gushungo also showed signs of being a good leader by accomodating the likes of Walter Mzembi and Simba Mumbengegwi into the central committee.

I am sure scores have been settled. The game has been won by the winners and it's time to focus on the economy.

Economically, I feel congress did not do justice to the economy. Congress did not inspire anyone to go out with the hope that our economy will be fine soon.

Congress answered political questions but did not answer the bread and butter questions that the electorate has.

While sloganeering was about pamberi nepolitics, nothing said pamberi neeconomy or gutsaruzhinji. I, however, do hope that from now going forward, emphasis will be on fighting poverty and re-building Zimbabwe .

My conclusion, therefore, is congress was good for the politicians, but lukewarm for the economy, the businesspeople, the employee and my dogs at home. Pamberi neZimAsset, pamberi nekuzadzisa ma campaign promises, pasi nevanogarira basa. Let's give the new team a year and analyse their output during the next people's conference.
