STEAM: The new Eye in Education

28 Aug 2016 at 11:27hrs | Views
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is the current initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology Development. In the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education the main thrust is on STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, I find this to be more holistic.

These two initiatives that are so noble, have been taken seriously by a Harare based Youth Organization called Youth Empowerment Social Network Organization, or YES network org, with its main thrust being on Robotics Science. With a diverse base of Directors, YES organization has managed to organize Science exhibitions on Robotics in many schools within Harare. One of the Directors Mr. Kudakwashe Chiveto believes that YES helps students develop not only mathematics and scientific mindset but life skills relevant to everyday challenges.

Apart from robotics science clubs, YES has engaged in several social services including clean up campaigns, environment conservative programs and leadership training. It was a great pleasure to be honoured with visits from Honorable Dr. Lazarus Do kora, Dr Silvia Utete Masango and Honorable Patrick Zhuwao to some of YES programs this year. Their presence shows that the organization is recognised and supported in its effort.

In August this year, YES network organisation also registered yet another Private Business Cooperation under the name Youth Ambassador. This is an extension of YES network organization which will expand the works to include career guidance to the youths, academic seminars and symposiums, a TV program to be launched early next year plus a number of other self help projects geared at improving the life of the youths holistically. One of the Directors of Youth Ambassador, Mr. Padington Chakabva, who is also a seasoned Educationists believes that several schools and youths across the country will benefit both academically and morally from the projects lined up. While urging schools to accord their students opportunities to interact with Youth Ambassador personnel, Mr. Chakabva also encouraged the Youths to dare to join the organization as individuals as this will go a long way in helping them grow with morals, values and relevant skills they need in life.

Schools and students wishing to benefit from the organizations are encouraged to contact the following number for further details (0785199703). Forward with holistic education for a brighter and better Nation. STEAM and STEM for life.
