DARE Statement on demo court victory
07 Sep 2016 at 21:50hrs | Views
We want to thank the lawyers and ZLHR who stood by us and saw the merits of this application. The court ruling is a reminder that Zimbabwe is a republic and not a monarchy which panders to the whims of Robert Mugabe. We salute the bravery of Justice Priscilla Chigumba against the backdrop of threats and victimisation by Mugabe in his speech some days ago.We have stood up to tyranny and we will never allow injustice to hinder our road to democracy and liberty.
The application could not fail because the statutory instrument was an attempt to subvert the constitution. In itself, the instrument is treasonous and serves to warn to law officers who are ill advised and used by their superiors and other arms of the state. We do not hold any personal grudge to Officer Newbert Saunyama .He was just a messenger whose message was poisonous to the tree of liberty. We hope in future he will refuse to be used to protect a rogue regime bend on denying citizen rights.Indeed this victory should harken Zimbabweans to the call for liberty and a new Zimbabwe that we want.A convergence of values, principles, and ethics should naturally mutate into an agreed program and unitary campaign for a new beginning.
To my co-applicant Sten Zvorwadza let us walk the road to freedom and realise that the struggle for a new Zimbabwe will face hurdles from those who are bent on protecting the regime and not the constitution .To people of Zimbabwe, this is your victory .Let us walk together and traverse the journey to a democratic and free Zimbabwe.
