Chamisa’s tasteless, infantile politicking regrettable

Losing Presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa, who is now a political orphan, for the umpteenth time chose to ridicule the man who walloped him during the 2023 Harmonised General elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, at the funeral of the late CCC Senator, Murisi Zwizwai.

In a typical and unAfrican way devoid of ubuntu, Chamisa claimed that he was father to the President, insinuating he was a larger-than-life character who had been told by the late former President, Robert Mugabe, that he was now the father of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, his political rival Tendai Biti, who is on a political sabbatical, gave a mature eulogy that centered on the life of Zwizwai.

Chamisa has earned himself the unenviable moniker ‘funeral president,' as he takes advantage of funeral wakes to take cheap political gibes against his political opponents, instead of commiserating with the bereaved and eulogizing the departed. His childish pot-shots at the President are unchristian and disrespectful.
Tendai Nhamo, a Gweru based political commentator said Chamisa was a fake Christian and pastor who did not live by the dictates of Christianity as enshrined in the holy book – the bible.

"If he was a bonafide Christian, he would heed Romans 13: 1-7 which bids that: ‘Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.'"

The verses continue: "Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good."

Chamisa's failure to submit and respect his President is ungodly yet he vaunts himself as a paragon of Christianity. Moreover, it was distasteful to disrespect Zwizwai, who was his political opponent as he was part of the Tshabangu faction after being jettisoned by Chamisa in his candidate selection criteria ahead of the 2023 Harmonised General Elections.

Zwizwai was only saved by Tshabangu recently when he was appointed Senator after being frozen out by Chamisa after serving four terms as Harare Central MP.
