THE country's two football giants Highlanders and Dynamos' bad boys tag continues to stalk them as they are almost certain to improve the league's bank balance with just a game into the season.

Last season, the two giants had a combined value of just under $100,000 in fines for various offences. The Castle Lager Premiership season kicked off over the weekend.

Bulawayo giants Highlanders are likely to be hit with a $125 fine after their manager, club legend Willard Mashinkila Khumalo was expelled in the second half of their match against Chapungu United.

Khumalo is believed to have verbally abused the referee after he had denied Highlanders a penalty in one of two incidents the Bulawayo team felt cheated.

According to the PSL's revised standing order for 2014, Chapter 14, a coach, manager or member of the technical team expelled from the technical area before or during a match will be fined $125.

Reigning champions DeMbare, who were hit with sanctions amounting to $65,500 last season, are almost certain to be hit with a $2,000 sanction following missile throwing from the Mpilo end that hit impressive How Mine goalie, Donovan Bernard at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday. Last season a similar offence attracted a $8,000 fine.

Referee Philani Ncube had just blown for halftime and as the young goal minder was busy collecting his towels and water bottles, missiles rained on him with one hitting him just below his left eye. He sustained a cut.

As if that was not enough, DeMbare supporters also threw water bottles to their goalkeeper George Chigova as he emerged from halftime so that he could sprinkle some water on the posts, supposedly to diffuse juju which was allegedly sprayed by Bernard.
