GURUVE - Homeground Pool Team have been crowned champions of the Guruve Pool League (GPL) after an exhilarating season that saw them finish top of the table.

The team were officially crowned on Saturday at a colourful ceremony held at Vikela's Homeground in Guruve.

Out of the 21 teams that competed, Homeground secured 125 points, while runners-up Padya Pool Team finished with 118 points.

Guest of honour Mr Lazarus Butiza praised the league for its role in fighting drug abuse and promoting positive youth engagement.

"The league has proven that when youths are engaged in constructive activities like pool, they develop discipline, teamwork, and focus - values that go beyond the table and into life. Sport is your voice, your stage, your strength," Butiza said.

GPL Chairman Mr Joram Hwande, represented by Mr Ignatious Wambe, congratulated the champions and commended all teams for their efforts.

"To our champions, Homeground - your discipline, teamwork, and determination have paid off. Congratulations! You have set the bar high and shown us what it means to be the best," Hwande said.

He encouraged runners-up not to lose heart, expressing confidence they would return stronger next season. Hwande also extended gratitude to volunteers, referees, patrons and all who contributed to the success of the league.

As the off-season begins, most teams are expected to reshuffle their squads, offloading and recruiting new players to strengthen competition for the next campaign.
