WARRIORS' gaffer Norman Mapeza has released CAPS United players ahead of their CAF champions league match tomorrow. Four players had been called for national duty including goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda, defender Dennis Dauda and midfielders Devon Chafa and Ronald Chitiyo. Upon reporting for camp on Monday, the quartet was told to return to their club on Tuesday.
Tomorrow, Makepekepe host Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya in their third round of matches in the group stage. Ironically the four players are battling with knocks they sustained in their 2-1 win against USM Alger of Algeria at the National Sports Stadium last week. It was for that reason they didn't travel to fulfill their Castle Lager Premiership match against Triangle in Chiredzi on Sunday.
They drew 1-1 against Triangle. "They attended camp for professional reasons. We told them to be there in time and honour the call up. But since we have an upcoming match, we opted to have them in time for planning purposes. They have various injuries and we gave them time to rest since last week. It will be important to have them in our camp as we make assessments for the final training session before we face Al Ahli Tripoli on Friday. For now we can't be certain who is in and who is out of the tie," CAPS United assistant coach Tostao Kwashi said.
As things stand, Sibanda is likely to miss the tie after suffering a mysterious ankle injury whilst there is hope for Dauda, Chafa and Chitiyo. Dauda twisted his knee whilst Devon Chafa pulled a muscle. Tafadzwa Rusike is bothered by his nagging knee injury whilst skipper Hardlife Zvirekwi faces a lengthy absence after he aggravated a hamstring injury.
Defender, Valentine Musarurwa is also struggling for fitness with a groin injury.
