THIRTY-FOUR of the 37 local soccer coaches who sat for April's high-level Caf B Licence examinations passed. Seven got distinctions and three failed.

Zimbabwe senior national team caretaker coach Rahman Gumbo, Chicken Inn's Adam Ndlovu, Mebelo Njekwa of Hwange, former national team gaffer Norman Mapeza, Johannes Nhuwa of Eastern Region, Monomotapa's assistant coach George Jojo and Black Mambas' John "Toto" Ncube were the most outstanding.

In a telephone interview from Harare yesterday, the Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association (Zisca) chairman, Bheki Nyoni, confirmed the results but declined to name the coaches who failed the highly regarded course.

"The results for the Caf B Licence coaching course are out. Three coaches, one of them from a Premiership club, failed the course but for professional reasons I cannot tell you the names of those who did not get the licence.

"As Zisca, we would like to congratulate the seven guys who got distinctions and it is our hope that they do well in their duties. We also hope to see them playing leading roles in developing soccer in our country," said Nyoni.

The course is a step higher than the Caf C Licence, which is a beginners' course. Attendees, with approval from Caf, can move to the Caf A Licence after completion of the second stage.

Tanzania's Sunday Kayuni, a highly qualified Caf instructor, conducted the course with Nelson Matongorere assisting him.

Some of the local coaches who attended the clinic include Lloyd Mutasa, who heads Green Mamba in Swaziland, Misheck Chidzambwa, Elvis Chiweshe, Philani "Beefy" Ncube, Barry Daka, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, Wilson Mutekede and Tavaka Gumbo.

Nyoni said Zimbabwe will play host to another Caf B Licence coaching clinic from 27 August to 3 September.

"We have another course coming at the end of August and right now we are only waiting to get the name of the instructor. Caf C Licence holders should get in touch with our office so that they get the modules and start studying for the course.

"The continental football motherbody is conducting these courses with a view of standardising qualifications by 2014," Nyoni said.

According to Nyoni, some of the coaches expected for the second intake are Warriors' assistant coaches Peter Ndlovu and David Mandigora, Chicken Inn and national Under-20 assistant coach Mandla Mpofu, ex-Bosso gaffer Mkhuphali Masuku, national Under-15 coach Dumaza Dube, John Phiri of FC Platinum, Willard Khumalo who is with FC Strikers and Arthur Tutani.

Mighty Warriors' Rosemary Mugadza, Dynamos' Callisto Pasuwa, former Warriors' striker Agent Sawu, Kennedy Nagoli and Lloyd Chitembwe are expected to attend the course.
