An agent says, Suarez key to Van der Wiel deal
It is understood that Ajax defender Gregory Van der Wiel could leave the club in the January transfer window however the final decision lies with the Dutch giants and their decision on whether they sell Luis Suarez to Liverpool.
Van der Wiel has been monitored by Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City; however the Red Devils and Spanish giants are reportedly the frontrunners in the race for the Dutchman.
The player still has a lengthy contract at the Amsterdam Arena and despite financial difficulties the club do not want to lose all their star names, with Urby Emanuelson having Joined AC Milan and Liverpool in negotiations regarding the signing of Luis Suarez.
"Anything can happen at the moment." Hakim Slimani told reporters.
"I think if one of the clubs want him, he would have to think about it. The main thing is that Ajax will have to make a decision about that.
"But at the moment nothing is concrete, there is no offer on the table. He still has a contract for 5 years, so it all depends on Ajax and whether they are willing to let him go, and whether Luis Suarez joins Liverpool.
"Then it is up to the player and whether he wants to leave. So you never know, but we will see. But this is all speculation, I have not had any calls."
Van der Wiel, 22, is one of Dutch football's hottest prospects and has already established himself in the Dutch international set-up starting two games at the 2010 World Cup.
The marauding right back has been perennially linked with the exit door at the Amsterdam Arena, with persistent rumours that the Dutch club are looking to cash in on their top talent due to financial difficulties.
