BULAWAYO'S Zi FM presenter Gibson Ncube is set to introduce a Top-10 chart on his show that will be based on music from the city.

Ncube, who hosts the Zi Saturday Zone "yo link to the city of Kings and Queens" from 6pm to 9pm, has seen the programme grow and attract more listeners not only from Bulawayo, but nationwide and even beyond.

Speaking to Southern Eye the presenter said the chart would go a long way in the recognition of music from Bulawayo.

"I've been thinking a lot about this chart and it could also be another route to try and get Bulawayo's music more recognised and accepted through tapping into other avenues that can make it more popular to the entire nation," he said.

"On my show, I get a lot of requests for certain songs from Bulawayo and these requests come from all corners of the nation and even outside the country.

"If some of our music cannot make it into the local charts, why not creating a platform where the music's popularity can increase there-by create a demand that can enable the music to start getting voted for on national charts?"

Ncube's intention is to create awareness about music from Bulawayo on his show. The presenter believes that the city has talented musicians who could be in line to win awards.

"As long as we don't do anything as a city to support our local musicians and as long as our musicians do not produce quality and appealing music to the nation, we'll forever cry foul and look for someone to blame. We are very good at playing the blame card, Harare this, Harare that, Nama this, Nama that, but no one has ever come out in public and questioned what our artistes or industry is possibly doing wrong and try and sort out that problem in order for them to try and be at par with artistes from other regions," added Ncube.

It is on his platform that the success of Bulawayo's House Rebels came from.

The group was heard on Ncube's show by someone in the United Kingdom and they were quickly offered an opportunity to represent Zimbabwe at this year's Miami Winter Conference in Florida, US and this is the biggest global gathering for house music producers, DJs and artists that sees over 500 events and workshops taking place.
