STUNNING South African actress Winnie Modise, who plays Khethiwe Buthelezi in the soap opera, Generations, arrived in Bulawayo yesterday, for her much anticipated and scheduled guest appearance at a dinner cocktail that was held at Rainbow Hotel last night.
The petite Modise arrived at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo yesterday afternoon aboard a South African Airways plane.
Organisers of the event gave her a majestic treatment, as they hired a limousine to ferry her from the airport to various destinations in the city, where she met and shot pictures with some of her fans.
Her first port of call was Haddon and Sly, where she met quite a sizeable number of fans, signed autographs and took pictures.
She was then taken to the city's only mall in the central business district - Bulawayo Centre - where she also met fans, who whistled and cheered her, with some even expressing how much they loved her.
Her biggest surprise was at Nkulumane's Sekusile Shopping Centre, where hundreds of fans had gathered to see her.
She told her fans she was happy to be in Zimbabwe and appreciated the support fans were giving the soapie.
"I am happy to be here and I greatly appreciate the support you fans give our production. I love you all," she said.
A fan who spoke to this publication said she was happy to have finally seen Khethiwe, whom she admired, adding that she couldn't wait to meet the rest of the cast.
"I am so excited to have seen Khethiwe in real life. This was so exciting; I wish and hope to meet the rest of the cast in the near future," said one Thembi.
An organiser of the event, who requested anonymity, said they were happy with the way people from Bulawayo behaved and gave support to the actress.
"The response from people was terrific. She is really a quiet person and wasn't expecting people to go into such frenzy, she will definitely have beautiful memories of Bulawayo," she said.
The organiser noted that they would be inviting other South African personalities to the country to meet fans.
