Mukanya gets 'wild' applause

Self exiled legendary musician Dr Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo proved he still remains popular on home soil.
This follows the rapturous applause he received on Thursday night when he gave an acceptance speech via the phone at Dandaro Inn, in the capital.
Mukanya received a lifetime achievement award from music promoter Partson Chimboza who was recognising artsites he has worked within over a decade of music promotion.
Affirmative Action Group president elect, Chamu Chiwanza, then phoned Mukanya and asked him to give an acceptance speech over the phone.
When Mukanya's booming voice reverberated across the venue, the capacity crowd roared into rapturous applause with some chanting Mukanya's name.
Mukanya has not lost a touch of his sense of humour.
In his acceptance speech, he sent the guests into stitches when he asked Chiwanza what the award was all about.
"Imbori award yeiko nhai (What is the award all about)," he asked.
He went on to salute his fans.
"I thank you for the support keep on supporting.
"Rambai muchiita zvamurikuita kuti mufambise basa mberi (Keep on supporting)," said Mukanya, much to massive jubilation from the crowd.
Other award winners included Oliver Mtukudzi, Winky D, Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria and Philip Chiyangwa.
Chiyangwa was recognized for his contribution in promoting local entertainment.
In his acceptance speech Chiyangwa bragged that he facilitated the late king of pop Michael Jackson's visit to Zimbabwe.
He also promoted Democratic Republic of Congo based rhumba stars, Lubumbashi Stars, and other top foreign acts.
