Cape Town - Former president FW de Klerk is to have surgery on Tuesday to have a pacemaker fitted.
Die Burger reported that the procedure will be carried out on Tuesday and De Klerk may be discharged as soon as Wednesday.
According to the report, De Klerk, 77, felt dizzy last week while travelling in Europe, and he and his wife Elita returned home to Cape Town over the weekend.
The FW de Klerk Foundation announced on Saturday that the couple had cut short their trip to Europe because of former president Nelson Mandela's health. Mandela, 94, remains in a critical but stable condition in a Pretoria hospital where he is being treated for a recurring lung infection.
De Klerk and Mandela shared the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize.
In 2006 De Klerk had a health scare when he had two malignant nodes removed from his colon, and then developed a severe lung infection, resulting in him being admitted to ICU. He has since recovered, Die Burger reported.
