28 Jan 2012 at 18:03hrs | Views
A Mazowe Boys High School A'level candidate, Alvin Murandu scooped 20 points from four subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Accounting.
When asked by the Sunday Mail how he felt after scooping 20 points, Alvin said it was great although he had hoped for and expected it; "I felt this is something that came with the grace." of God. I was so humbled, no words can really express my joy.
Why four subjects at A-Level?
I am a person who always wants to stretch myself beyond limits. From my O-Level Zimsec and HEXCO results I had reason to believe that I am an all-rounder although I opted for sciences at A- Level and decided to add Accounts so as to cast my net wider in terms of options at university level and give myself a competitive edge.
Have you applied for scholarships?
Not yet but still gathering information of the available scholarships. I would be grateful for one because tertiary education may be too expensive for my family.
Did you have a life outside academics?
Yes sure, I believe that all work and no play makes Alvin a dull boy. I was in the athletics team, Hockey first team and soccer first team sport wise. In co-curricular activities, I was the projects co-ordinator of the current affairs club. I was also in the school choir and Mazowe choral group named Shekinah.
Was this a one-man show?
This achievement was more of teamwork than an individual effort. I was part of a winning team led by our Mazowe High School Headmaster, Mr Katanda, and his staff who always provided a very stable environment conducive to high school learning., My stream was a highly inspired and a prayerful group. Amid fierce competition among ourselves, we still always supported one another. We also had teachers of high calibre. Also not forgetting my family. They supported me through thick and thin.
