WE do not support gay rights because we believe a man must marry a woman not another man, the popular Zimbabwean opposition political party, Movement for Democratic Change led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has declared in Britain.

This was revealed by MDC-T national organising secretary in Birmingham Nelson Chamisa on Saturday who is also Minister of Information, Communication and Technologies.

Chamisa was precisely responding to a question from Admore Tshuma who questioned the party's policy on Gay rights which are now almost becoming universal rights.

He spoke in the presence of Treasurer General Roy Bennett and Co-Home Affairs Minister, Teresa Makone.

"We are clear on this. We don't believe that a man should marry another man. We don't believe that a woman should marry another woman. We believe that God created men and women for a particular reason. In fact you know Sodom and Gomorrah were actually candidates for destruction because of doing exactly that. But we are also conscious of the fact that we should not be the judge of people's character. In as much as we feel it is not good for a man to marry another man, let the choice be an individual's choice ...let the people's be the people's choice."

However, Chamisa said his party was against persecution of gay people.

"While we don't condone homosexuality, we also don't condone persecution of gays. We believe that should be left to the very person who is practising homosexuality to face God, not us throwing them in jails and so on," he said.
