In a recent case in Harare, a woman named Cathrine Tawenga obtained a garnish order against her ex-partner, Kudzanai Kapeperi, who had allegedly stopped paying child maintenance since January.
Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam granted Tawenga's request after Kapeperi admitted to defaulting on his payments.
Tawenga explained that Kapeperi was supposed to pay US$50 per month, as ordered last year, but had ceased payments.
Kapeperi agreed to clear the arrears through a garnishee order, citing financial constraints due to servicing another loan, which left him with a salary of US$88.
The court ruled that US$100 would be garnished from his account for the next four months to settle the arrears.
