Former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi has claimed that his phone line was recently hacked, warning those responsible to stop what he described as attempts to monitor his communications.

Mzembi made the remarks in a post on X, formerly Twitter, where he suggested that he had traced the alleged intrusion and accused unknown individuals of engaging in outdated surveillance tactics.

"Please don't hack my line again for listening ins, don't try it again, I traced the hacking to a landline done last night, there is nothing from me except progress, be warned," Mzembi wrote.

The former minister added that there was no justification for covert monitoring, arguing that he remained open to political engagement.

"I am a senior politician always ready to engage. There is no need for those childish and outdated games," he said.

Mzembi did not provide further details regarding the alleged hacking incident, including who he believed was responsible or whether the matter had been reported to law enforcement authorities.

The claims come just days after Mzembi secured a significant legal victory when the High Court acquitted him on a charge of criminal abuse of office that had hung over him for years.

In a judgment delivered by Benjamin Chikowero, the High Court found Mzembi not guilty of allegations that he unlawfully donated public viewing screens belonging to the Ministry of Tourism during his tenure as minister.

Justice Chikowero ruled that the State had fatally weakened its own case by failing to call what the court considered its most important witness.

The acquittal brought to an end a long-running prosecution that Mzembi consistently maintained was politically motivated.

The former minister was arrested in 2018, months after the military-assisted removal of former President Robert Mugabe from power.

Following his departure from Zimbabwe in 2018 to seek medical treatment in South Africa, Mzembi remained outside the country for several years before returning in June last year.

Upon his return, he was arrested on outstanding warrants and spent months battling legal proceedings while repeatedly being denied bail.

He was eventually granted bail on May 4, shortly before Justice Chikowero delivered his judgment.

Mzembi's latest comments have sparked speculation on social media, with supporters expressing concern over his allegations while others called for further details regarding the alleged hacking incident.

As of Tuesday, no official response had been issued by authorities regarding the claims.

The former minister remains one of Zimbabwe's most prominent political figures and has recently re-emerged in public discourse following his acquittal and return to active engagement on national issues.
