A 20-year-old Plumtree man is facing assault charges after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend and her mother, a police officer, following a confrontation over their failed relationship.

Eric Dube appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, facing two counts of assault. He was remanded in custody until December 24 pending further legal proceedings.

According to Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa, the incident occurred on November 6 when Dube visited his ex-girlfriend, Princess Dube, at her home in an attempt to reconcile. However, Princess refused to rekindle the relationship, accusing Dube of being promiscuous.

An enraged Dube allegedly denied the accusations and became violent, assaulting Princess with open hands. When Simaedwa Nkomo, Princess' mother and a police officer, intervened to stop the assault, Dube allegedly escalated the violence by pelting both women with bricks.

The two women managed to escape and immediately filed a police report, leading to Dube's arrest.

Dube remains in custody, with his case set to be heard again on December 24. The assault has sparked concerns over the rising levels of violence in relationships, as authorities continue to investigate the matter.
